Desert Motorcycle Racer Killed in Crash

January 24, 2012 - I want to remind all of you that we need to be careful out there. Most of you know I am a rider. Most of the folks think motorcycle accidents are typically street related. Here is a story that contradicts that. According to reports a desert motorcycle racer was killed in the desert over the weekend.

According to reports the motorcyclist was found on Sunday at approximately 1:15 p.m. in the desert approximately 150 feet off of a designated course. According to San Bernardino County Deputy Coroner Investigator Jeff Lewison, experienced motorcycle racer Lance Black age 45 entered the race endorsed by the Desert Motorcycle Club and was found approximately 150 feet off of the designated track dead.

According to the president of the Desert Motorcycle Club Rick Nuss, the experienced motorcyclist was approximately six to seven miles in the second course of the race traveling at a high rate of speed. Black is believed to have lost control of the bike and died on impact, Nuss said.

Nuss stated that there were no witnesses to the motorcycle crash and it occurred in an area where there were no obstacles that would be dangerous. Nuss said that Black was an expert level racer and belonged to the American Motorcyclist Association District 37.

According to Lewiston Black was pronounced dead at the scene of the motorcycle crash. According to reports Black leaves a wife and two children. There is no word on whether there is a rider fund set up for the family. We will keep you posted if there is any way the family can be helped.

Motorcyclist Dies in Sunday Collision

January 16, 2012 - According to reports a motorcyclist was died Sunday after being involved in a crash with a Toyota.

According to the Long Beach Police Department the collision occurred at Seventh Street and Redondo Avenue in Long Beach at approximately 5:12 p.m. The motorcyclist has been identified as Thomas Hand age 26 and police believe he was traveling at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred.

Long Beach police said that Hand, who was in the eastbound lanes of Seventh Street made a sudden lane change, in order to enter the intersection and ran a red light. Hand struck a Toyota Yaris that was making a turn onto Redondo Avenue.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris was identified as a Long Beach woman age 42, who was not injured in the collision. According to Long Beach police an officer saw the accident occur and aided the rider until paramedics arrived on the scene. Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Burbank Crash

January 11, 2012 - According to reports a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Burbank. According to police the accident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Buena Vista Street and Alameda Avenue.

Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said the motorcyclist identified as Arthur Apelson 76 year old Los Angeles man collided with a vehicle. Apelson was riding a Honda Shadow 650 traveling north on Buena Vista and was making a left hand turn onto Alameda Avene when the collision occurred.

Sgt. Ryburn said the motorcycle collided with a Mazda 6 four door sedan driven by a 26 year old man, identified as Matt Black. According to Sgt. Ryburn, Black was traveling south on Buena Vista in the Mazda 6 traveling through the intersection when the collision occurred in this Burbank motorcycle accident. The Burbank police officer stated that the Mazda was unable to avoid the collision and the motorcycle that was making a left hand turn would have had to yield to through traffic.

The motorcyclist, Apelson was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center with a fractured right femur and severed right thumb. Sgt. Ryburn stated that alcohol did not play a role in the collision and no citations have been issued. He said the motorcycle collision remains under investigation.

Motorcyclist Suffers Major Injuries in Solo Crash

December 31, 2011-According to reports a motorcyclist suffered major injuries in a solo crash on Ortega Highway. According to the California Highway Patrol a Saturday morning solo motorcycle crash occurred on Ortega Highway in Riverside County.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jesse Udovich it is believed that the motorcyclist lost control of the bike. The motorcyclist went off of the side of the highway crashing in the vicinity of the Ortega Oaks Candy Store. Officer Udovich stated that the candy store is located three miles east of the Riverside and Orange County border.

According to CHP officer Udovich paramedics arriving on the scene found the motorcyclist in full cardiac arrest. The biker was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Murrieta. He said there have been some media reports that the motorcyclist has died, but is unable to confirm whether the biker has died or not. The Ortega Highway traffic was backed up into Orange County after the motorcycle crash, with one lane being closed for approximately two hours and reopening at approximately 11:15 a.m.

California Highway Patrol Officer Udovich stated that it is unclear what caused the motorcycle crash and further details about the rider were unavailable.

Long Beach Motorcycle Officer Injured in Morning Crash

December 15, 2011 -According to reports a Long Beach motorcycle officer was injured in a Thursday morning crash. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway, in the vicinity of Magnolia Avenue.

The crash occurred when the Long Beach motorcycle officer was splitting lanes between the fast lane and carpool lanes. The driver of a Toyota Corolla crossed the double yellow line leaving the carpool lane striking the officers motorcycle, according to CHP Officer Jose Perdomo.

According to CHP Officer Perdomo the impact of the crash knocked the Long Beach officer off of the motorcycle causing him to suffer injuries. One of the injuries the officer suffered was to his right arm. The Long Beach motorcycle officer was transported to UCI Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol traffic was backed up in the westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway and the accident scene and all lanes of traffic cleared at approximately 9:40 a.m.

Marine Killed in Motorcycle Crash on the I-5 Freeway

December 12, 2011 - According to reports a Marine was killed in a motorcycle crash on the I-5 Freeway. According to the California Highway Patrol an active duty Marine was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday on I-5.

The California Highway Patrol said the motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a flat bed trailer at approximately 8:30 p.m. while traveling southbound on the I-5 Freeway in the vicinity north of Lomas Santa Fe Drive.

The Marine has been identified by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office as Kyle Mason age 23 and resident of San Clemente. Mason was transported from the scene of the crash to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. Hit and Run Driver That Severely Injured a Motorcyclist Identified

November 10, 2011 - According to reports authorities are searching for a hit and run driver that caused a motorcyclist to be seriously injured in a Tuesday night Collision. According to Los Angeles police a hit and run accident involving motorcycle occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Vermont and Lexington Avenues.

The hit and run accident involved a 21 year old motorcyclist that is a USC student that was struck by a 1993 GMC Safari Van. Los Angeles police detectives have identified the driver of the Safari van as Jose Arevalo age 21 and native of Guatemala, who police stated is in the United States illegally.

The USC student was severely injured in the motorcycle collision and was transported by paramedics to an area hospital. According to reports the motorcyclist had numerous fractures.

According to the Los Angeles police the license plate number was provided by witnesses to the hit and run by witnesses. Police stated that witnesses said the driver left the scene, after hitting the motorcycle. Police state that they found the GMC Safari Van, but have not found Arevalo and that his family is not cooperating with authorities. Police stated that the family believes that Arevalo could leave the state or the country.

High Speed Chase Crash Injures Motorcycle Deputy

November 8, 2011 - According to reports a motorcycle deputy was injured in a high speed chase.

According to authorities the motorcycle officer was involved in a crash while pursuing a two motorcyclists that had exceeded speeds over 100 mph, when he crashed into the back of a vehicle. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Gabe Montoya, the accident occurred at approximately 11:44 a.m. when the motorcycle deputy began pursuing the motorcycle riders in the southbound lanes of the I-5 Freeway.

The motorcycle deputy became involved in the chase after the patrol cars could not keep up with one of the two motorcyclists that reached 130 mph. The chase continued onto the surface streets and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department joined.

The motorcycle deputy was involved in a crash on the surface roads, while attempting to pull the motorcyclists over, in the vicinity of Alicia Parkway and Charlinda Drive, according to sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

According to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone, the motorcycle officer suffered leg injuries and was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment. A woman in the vehicle the sheriff’s deputy struck was also injured and transported to Saddleback Hospital, Cpt. Stone said.

Deputies later found the motorcycle abandoned in the area near Del Cerro Elementary School located on Regina Street in Mission Viejo. The school was placed on lockdown while deputies searched for the person on the motorcycle involved in the motorcycle accident. One man was arrested, according to Amormino.

LAPD Motorcycle Officer Injured in Collision

October 6, 2011-According to reports a Los Angeles Police Department officer was injured in a motorcycle collision. According to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Diana Figueroa the collision occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. at Roscoe Boulevard and Willis Avenue in Panorama City.

The officer was heading eastbound on his motorcycle on Roscoe Avenue, when the driver of a vehicle made an unsafe turn in front of the motorcyclist, determined in the preliminary investigation, according to LAPD spokesman Richard French.

The driver of the car was uninjured in the collision and the LAPD officer was transported to an area hospital with facial injuries.

French said that Roscoe Boulevard was closed due to the motorcycle crash between Van Nuys and Sepulveda boulevards. The alternate route vehicles were using was included Parthenia Street and Sherman Way.

October 3, 2011 - According to reports a motorcyclist was injured in a collision on the 22 Freeway.

According to California Highway Patrol the crash occurred at approximately 7:46 a.m. on the 91 Freeway, in the vicinity north of Imperial Highway.

California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada stated that the crash involved a silver BMW and a motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the BMW causing it to flip down in the toll lanes.

The motorcycle rider was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he later died.

A SigAlert that was issued for the FasTrak lanes was canceled at approximately 9:00 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol a crash occurred in the eastbound 91 Freeway at approximately 8:39 a.m. in the eastbound lanes in vicinity of the connector to the northbound 57 Freeway.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were some regulator/rectifier assemblies that were defective having insufficient adhesion between the power module and rectifier case that contains a heat sink to dissipate heat.

The insufficient adhesion heat generated on the power module circuit board in some cases can cause the circuit board to deform and lift off the case. The excessive heat on the circuit board and an uncontrolled electric current output can result in insufficient charging current being provided to the battery.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the engine stalling or a non-starting condition can increase the risk of crashing.

Suzuki distributors will replace the defective part with an improved part, with the recall expected to begin March 2nd.

Orange County Motorcycle Crash Kills LAPD Officer

December 14, 2010-According to reports a Los Angeles Police Department officer was killed in a motorcycle crash.

According to authorities a Los Angeles Police officer was killed in a Monday night motorcycle accident in Orange County. The accident occurred in Santa Ana at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Santiago Canyon Road and Jeffery Road.

According to authorities the Los Angeles Police Department Emergency Operations Divisions Officer Kent Carter age 60 was off duty and riding his personal motorcycle at the time of the collision. Carter was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle and veered into oncoming traffic.

Carter collided with another motorcyclist that was riding a 2007 Honda, who was identified as Miles McCune age 24 of Mission Viejo. McCune and Carter were both pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

McCune’s passenger was transported to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.
The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

Carter was a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and joined February 23, 1981. He worked for a decade on patrol in Wilshire, Rampart and 77th Street. In 1998 he was assied to the Emergency Operations Division in LAPD’s Labor Relations.

Santiago Canyon Road Head-On Motorcycle Crash Kills Two

December 13, 2010-Irvine Lake Motorcycle attorneys at Ehline Law Firm are reporting that two people have been killed in a head on motorcycle crash on Santiago Canyon Road.

According to the Orange County Fire Authority two people were killed and two more injured in a head on motorcycle crash that occurred on Santiago Canyon Road Sunday.

The head on collision occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in the vicinity of Irvine Lake and Silverado Canyon Road in unincorporated Orange County, at approximately 4:33 p.m. on Sunday.

The coroner’s office stated one of the people killed was a man, but they are working to identify the victims.

November 4, 2010-According to reports, an LAPD motorcycle officer was injured in a 110 Freeway Crash.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer, Jennifer Connelly, the accident occurred at approximately 7:25 a.m. in the vicinity of Slauson Avenue on the southbound Harbor Freeway in South Los Angeles.

There were some reports the officer was walking around at the scene of the crash, but according to authorities the officer was transported to the hospital.

Further investigation of this data shows that ¾ of these motorcycle crashes were collisions with other vehicles, most being cars. Decline in Fatal Motorcycle Crashes for First Time in Eleven Years

October 12, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the number of fatal motorcycle crashes is down for the first time in eleven years in the U.S. and California.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the motorcycle fatalities reported in the United States for 2009 decreased for the first time in over a decade. In 2009 there were 4,462 fatal motorcycle crashes, compared with 5,312 during 2008.

In California the number of motorcycle riders killed was 394 in 2009, which is down from 560 reported motorcycle fatalities in 2008.

So far in 2010 there have been 62 motorcycle collisions according to the California Highway Patrol’s Rancho Cucamonga Station Officer Jeff Briggs, with only one fatality.

During 2009 there were 90 motorcycle collisions, with three fatalities and 94 crashes with three fatalities in 2008 in the area the officers patrol. There were 115 collisions in 2007, with five fatalities, patrolled by the Rancho Cucamonga California Highway Patrol Officers. The areas these officers patrol are the 210, 10, 71, 15 and 60 freeways.

According to Traffic Safety officials they believe there are reasons for the decline in motorcycle related deaths. These include dropping gasoline prices that are down four percent from 2007 and 2008. There has been a drop in motorcycle registrations and the downturn in the economy, according to officials.

Briggs stated the constant education for motorcycles and the public has helped drop the fatalities. The CHP officer cited that May is Motorcycle Safety Month when officers educate both motorcycle riders and drivers about safety on the road.

Peter Horst spokesman for the American Motorcycle Association with 230,000 members stated that any decline in fatalities is good news. Horst is not sure that the reasons in the decline is clear and that while some officials are stating it is due to the economy, the association is not aware of any studies that have been done to support that.

Fatal Hit and Run Motorcycle Accident—Downey Police Arrest Driver

According to the Downey police the hit and run accident occurred on Florence Avenue and Paramount Boulevard.

The accident involved a 23 year old Huntington Park motorcyclist and a pickup truck. The truck was traveling east on Florence Avenue at the time of the crash and ran a red light.

The Huntington Park resident was transported to Downey Regional Medical Center where the rider later died from the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the truck fled after the collision, but was arrested shortly after for alleged felony driving under the influence.

Motorcyclist Fatally Injured in 57 Freeway Crash

September 24, 2010-According to reports a motorcycle crash fatally injured the rider on the 57 Freeway.

An early morning accident was fatal for the 26 year old motorcycle rider according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. when the 26 year old Signal Hill resident lost control of his 2009 Yamaha R6 sticking the southbound 57 Freeway wall.

According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred mid way in the transition road southbound 57 Freeway and the westbound 22 Freeway transition road.
Witnesses stated the motorcycle rider was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

Motorcycle Community Mourns After 13 Year Old Racers Death

August 30, 2010-According to reports the motorcycle racing community is morning after a deadly Indianapolis Speedway accident that took the life of 13 year old racer Peter Lenz.

The 13 year old from Vancouver Washington fell off of his motorcycle during warm-ups in the youth circuit he participated in racing. After falling from his bike at Sunday’s warm up lap for the Indianapolis race was run over by a 12 year old motorcycle rider.

Medical personnel immediately placed a brace on his neck and placed him on a stretcher, while doing chest compressions. Lenz was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Lenz who was one of the fast rising motorcycle racers according to the Marion County Coroner’s Office died from blunt force trauma.

Lenz was the youngest rider or driver that has been killed at the speedway with 101 years of history and on the teen racers Facebook page his father broke the news to fans. His father who was at the speedway when the deadly accident occurred placed a message stating “Peter passed away early this morning” and when on to state that he was struck by another rider.

The elder Lenz said “ he passed away doing what he loved” and making reference to his number 45 stated he is on another ride. The message left stated God Bless Peter and the other rider and was simply signed Dad.

Number 45 the number Lenz road under and his death was the first since 2003 when IndyCar driver Tony Renna was killed.

Motorcycle and Big Rig Collision in Fullerton Rider injured

July 20, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a motorcycle and big rig collided in Fullerton injuring the rider. The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of Chapman according to Sgt. Dan Bohling of the Fullerton Police Department.

The collision that injured the rider of the motorcycle occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. when the motorcycle was traveling east on Chapman. The big rig was making a right turn onto the eastbound lanes of Chapman from Raymond when the two collided at the intersection.

The rider of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital after the collision. The rider was treated at the scene by Fullerton firefighters and paramedics before being transported to the hospital. There is no report of the Fullerton motorcycle accident rider's injuries.

According to Officer Bohling firefighters had to use dirt dikes to contain fuel from the motorcycles fuel tank that ruptured that was gathering in the gutter.

Aerosmith’s Joe Perry Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Perry was struck from behind on his 2009 Ducati Monster 696 Thursday, by a 62 year old woman according to reports. Perry’s son Tony wrote on his Twitter page that he found out his dad was ok and home after being rear ended on his motorcycle. According to the Twitter report Perry’s other son Aaron was also on the motorcycle, but was not injured.

According to the police both Perry and the 62 year old woman were traveling at slow speeds prior to the motorcycle accident, and the woman was cited with following the motorcycle too closely. Perry a Massachusetts native according to reports sustained minor injuries in the crash and is said to still be able to tour with Aerosmith in their upcoming United States summer tour. Alhambra Off Duty Police Officer Critically Injured in 605 Freeway Motorcycle Crash

July 1, 2010-According to reports, a California police officer was critically injured in a 605 Freeway motorcycle crash in the Whittier area. The motorcycle crash took place on the northbound lanes of the San Gabriel River

Freeway in the vicinity of Whittier Boulevard in a collision with a big-rig. According to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Matt Levesque the officer was unconscious after the motorcycle crash. The off duty police Alhambra was transported to the County-USC Medical Center.

California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos stated both sides of the freeway were closed at 8:30 a.m. in order for the Los Angeles County Fire Department to land, which airlifted the injured motorcycle rider to the hospital. Early Morning 55 Freeway Crash Kills Motorcyclists

June 21, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by a motorcycle lawyer, a motorcyclist was killed in an early morning accident on the southbound 55 Freeway.

The motorcycle accident occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. according to the California Highway Patrol on the southbound 55 connector to southbound I-5.
The motorcyclist was killed after veering off the road and was struck by three vehicles, according to reports. He has been identified as Charles Park age 40 of Irvine according to the coroner’s office.

According to the California Highway Patrol Park was riding a 2004 Yamaha in the No. 1 land of the connector road when he veered to the left and struck a yellow sand barrel. According to reports park was traveling at approximately 80 miles an hour when he veered off the No.1 lane of the connector road.

The motorcycle continued south striking another sand barrel; Park was thrown from the bike and landed in the No.1 lane of the connector road. He was struck by three vehicles that were traveling on the trainsition road and pronounced dead at approximately 2:47 a.m.

The motorcycle came to rest on right shoulder of the road. The motorcycle crash shut down the transition road for several hours from approximately 3:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Rider Michael Stoldt age 29 of Lancaster was ejected from his motorcycle and airlifted to ECMC where he died later from his injuries in the crash that occurred in the town of Elma on Saturday. The accident happened when a northbound driver attempted to turn left in front of Stoldt who was traveling southbound without yielding right of way. Stoldt attempted to stop to avoid the collision and was ejected from his motorcycle. The vehicle driven by 79 year old Norman Verbanic struck the bike, which sent it caused it to land on Stoldt.

Charles L. Baily age 50 of Cattaraugus lost control of his motorcycle Saturday, striking a ditch on Hammond Hill Road in East Otto, ejecting him from the bike. He was Mercy Flight transported to ECMC with severe trauma to the upper portion of his body. According to Cattaraugus County Sheriff, Baily died later.

Sunday in another motorcycle crash Daniel H. Lynch Jr. age 50 of West Falls was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident after he failed to negotiate a curve. Lynch was ejected from the motorcycle after failing to negotiate a curve on McKinstry Road, striking a guardrail and sign post.

Beth Szymanski age 48 was pronounced dead at the scene of a Sunday accident, when she was ejected from a motorcycle she was a passenger on. The accident occurred when the operator of the bike Ronald L. Tackentien lost control of the bike crossing the northbound lane onto the east bound shoulder where they were both ejected.

Tackentien was transported to ECMC with minor injuries and where a blood test was taken. Tackentien was arrested and charged with first degree vehicular manslaughter and felony DWI, along with other traffic charges.

Charity Motorcycle Riders Involved in I-80 Crash

The 15th annual Shriner’s Charity ride Sunday involved a crash that three people were injured and transported to the hospital according to the Utah Highway Patrol at approximately 10:45 a.m.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Jesse Valenzuela the crash occurred when a male rider did not see the group of motorcycles ahead of him slowing down. The rider did not break soon enough to keep from colliding with another one of the bikes carrying a man and woman in the eastbound lanes of I-80.

The woman involved in the accident was flown to University Hospital with head injuries and listed in critical condition. The Deputies at the station where Glover worked issued a statement that said they had “heavy hearts and lost a great friend, fellow protector and partner in Deputy Camron Glover.”

The Virginia State Police according to spokes person spokeswoman Michelle Cotton are blaming high gusts of wind for a Saturday night motorcycle crash.

The rider Suffolk resident Garlon Turner age 60 was crossing the James River Bridge when Virginia State Police state a high gust of wind pushed the motorcycle across the bridge. Turner went over the edge of the bridge and was fatally injured.

According to the Virginia State Police Turner was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to Sgt. Michelle Cotton. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash that closed the southbound lanes of the bridge for approximately two hours.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified the stunt woman as 28 year old April Stirton, who was riding her motorcycle on U.S. Highway 101 when the accident occurred at approximately 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jose Nunez , Stirton was riding a 2004 Yamaha Roadstar and traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 101 in the vicinity west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Stirton according to the California Highway Patrol was traveling at approximately 55 miles per hour when she lost control of the motorcycle.

Stirton according to Officer Nunez was attempting to pass a tow truck when she lost control of the bike and fell off. The motorcycle skidded across two lanes of traffic and was stuck under a semi truck after being hit by the tow truck. Stirton after falling from the motorcycle was struck by the back wheels of the tow truck.

According to the California Highway Patrol officer, the stunt woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and no one else involve was injured.

There are studies that have been done that have proven motorcycle helmets are able to save lives, by decreasing fatal head injuries. Motorcyclists that ride without helmets according to statistics increase their risk of sustaining a fatal head injury by 40 percent and their risk of a non-fatal head injury by 15 percent.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has estimated that wearing a motorcycle helmet can reduce the risk of a fatal crash by 37 percent and believes wearing of helmets should be a law in all 50 states. At one university in Southern California a study done to evaluate a Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System, showed that motorcycle helmets are a significant factor to survive a motorcycle accident.

The data showed that motorcyclists that did not wear helmets were three times more likely to suffer brain injuries. The study showed that motorcycle helmets were 67 percent effective in prevention of head and brain injuries when in a crash. According to Anaheim police the officer was involved in a motorcycle accident, while riding a department motorcycle at approximately 11:35 a.m. Anaheim Police Lt. K. Switzer stated the accident occurred in the vicinity of Lincoln Avenue and Kingsley Street.

According to Sgt. Rick Marinez the primary investigation shows that the officer’s motorcycle struck the rear of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was stopped at the intersection. The witnesses at the scene of the accident called police. When the officer was able to get up he radioed the department that the authorities responding to the scene of the crash did not need to use sirens or lights, according to Sgt. Martinez.

Lt. Switzer stated that the officer was transported to the hospital and is walking and talking, but is believed to have some injuries that include broken bones.

Isaac who organizes the motorcycle run stated it is an emotional day for him after losing a son on September 8, 1997, Deputy Jeff Isaac of the Fresno County Sheriffs Office.

Each year when the event is held it is the organizations only fundraiser and 100 percent of the proceeds go to help the families of fallen officers in Central California.

This caused the motorcycle to go out of control where he then struck three other vehicles and when down on the asphalt.

Other drivers involved in the accident made statements, Jackie Sneed stated she was on her way to Los Angeles and sitting in her vehicle stopped in traffic when she heard something hit the Chevrolet Avalanche she was driving. When she got out of the vehicle she saw the officer lying on the ground and told him to lie still and not move. Another of the vehicles involved was driven by Sandra Retana who heard a loud noise and saw the motorcycle coming toward her vehicle. The officer was no longer on the motorcycle when it struck this vehicle.

Officer Williams injuries included a deep laceration to his foot and he was transported by ambulance to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

The California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene of the accident, along with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

There were no other reports of injuries at the scene of the accident from any of the other motorists involved in the accident.

The sailor has been identified according to the Medical Examiners Office as Petty Officer Michael Carl Kaske age 21 of San Diego. The sailor was stationed on the destroyer Higgins.

According to reports at the time the paramedics arrived the sailor was alert and while being treated went into cardiac arrest and was then airlifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 7:00 p.m.

The Medical Examiners Office stated that the cause of death listed for the sailor was blunt force head trauma and chest injuries.

According to reports Kaske was riding west on State Route 78 when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a tree.

According to reports a 23 year old man was fatally injured while maneuvering his motorcycle around a fallen tree.

The accident occurred in the vicinity of Stock Drive in the area of the Parker Flat Off road Vehicle Park. The man who has been identified as Jason Byfield, according to reports by the California Highway Patrol was maneuvering around a fallen tree at the same time as a motorcyclist that was coming in the other direction when they meant head-on.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, the other rider has been identified as Paul Albanese II age 21 and a resident of Citrus Heights.

Bafield was transported to a local hospital where he later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Kevin Mendonca.

Albanese also sustained injuries in the crash, however according to Mandonca the injuries he sustained were not available at the time or his condition.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Brain Pennings Chelone’s Suzuki crossed the double yellow lines, there was a GMC Sonoma pickup truck in that lane and he collided with the pickup.

Chelone was thrown from the bike and sustained major injuries including one to the left side of his head.

Chelone is a lieutenant junior grade, and was transported to the Sharp Memorial Hospital in the Kearny Mesa area. His is reportedly on life support and his wife is staying with him at the hospital.

While on base Marines and sailors are required to wear reflexive vests on base to increase visibility to motorists.

This comes after an August 16th accident when Lance Cpl. Christopher Carrasquillo, stationed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station was fatally injured when he lost control of his motorcycle on State Route 76 while passing another vehicle.

The 24th Marine was fatally injured the weekend of August 23-24, when his motorcycle struck a car. His rank has not been released, his name was Zachary Stein age 19 and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Camp Pendleton officials have announced that there will be a Motorcycle Fest and this will be the first of its kind held at the base and will focus on safety.

The event will be held Thursday and there will be a breakfast, a barbecue lunch and there will also be mandatory safety presentations. There will be a stunt rider exhibition and a poker run where riders will go to selected sites and collect cards. It has been reported that a motorcyclists has died after suspected juveniles place tree branch in the road.

According to Officer Joe Vega of the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred in Nipomo late Thursday night when a motorcycle rider that has been identified as Jacob Tillema age 65 was riding his motorcycle in the vicinity south of Primrose Lane and struck a tree branch in the road.

Officer Vega stated that it is suspected that as many as six minors that the police have identified are responsible for placing the branch in the roadway. He also stated the six minors will likely be arrested in the coming days and will be facing criminal charges.
