November 10, 2011 - According to reports authorities are searching for a hit and run driver that caused a motorcyclist to be seriously injured in a Tuesday night Collision. According to Los Angeles police a hit and run accident involving motorcycle occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Vermont and Lexington Avenues.
The hit and run accident involved a 21 year old motorcyclist that is a USC student that was struck by a 1993 GMC Safari Van. Los Angeles police detectives have identified the driver of the Safari van as Jose Arevalo age 21 and native of Guatemala, who police stated is in the United States illegally.
The USC student was severely injured in the motorcycle collision and was transported by paramedics to an area hospital. According to reports the motorcyclist had numerous fractures.
According to the Los Angeles police the license plate number was provided by witnesses to the hit and run by witnesses. Police stated that witnesses said the driver left the scene, after hitting the motorcycle. Police state that they found the GMC Safari Van, but have not found Arevalo and that his family is not cooperating with authorities. Police stated that the family believes that Arevalo could leave the state or the country.
