Great Fun at the Sturgis Rally 2011

Bikes, Black Hills, and having a blast. What do these three things have in common? They’re all part of the Sturgis Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota. Every year, towards the end of August, the Jackpine Gypsies motorcycle club hosts the rally which includes many great events, but of course is centered around the thrilling motorcycle rallies held during the two weeks of the Rally.

The whole town takes part in the fun during the rally, which this year takes place from July 30th until August 14, 2011. There are plenty of places to stay including hotels, homes for rent, and even campgrounds and RV camps. The event itself is packed with great events, both fun and serious. If you’re into the racing action, there is at least one race every day starting on the 6th of August and running through the 13th with most of those days having multiple races per day.

If you’re looking for a motorcycle run, you’ll have plenty of choices. The event has fun runs like the Hangover Contest and demo rides, memorial runs such as the Wounded Knee Memorial Motorcycle run, Veterans events and runs for homeless and other veterans.

For even more of the fun side, there are contests and other events including the Miss Buffalo Chip Beauty Pageant, comedian competitions, tattoo contest, and who would possibly want to miss the World Championship Pickle Lickin’ Contest? The whole event will be accented by great musical acts throughout the town, with both local and national acts including the Little River Band, Styx in concert, Buckcherry, Bachman Turner, and even a concert by Def Leppard! If you work up a hunger or a thirst, be sure to visit one of the great breakfast events in the morning, eat at the vendors or one of the local businesses, and finish it all off with a visit to the Jack Daniels Experience, or combine great drinks and great gambling at the Miller and Coors casino party.
And of course, what great bike rally would be complete without tons of great bikes, and lots of great people watching! The people are friendly, the bikes are awesome, and the rally is the best.
