February 28, 2011- According to reports Suzuki is recalling over 73,000 motorcycles.
The recall by the Brea based Suzuki is recalling 73,426 motorcycles due to an electrical issue that can cause the battery to go dead. The company stated the battery being caused by the electrical issue could cause the engine to stall or not start.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were some regulator/rectifier assemblies that were defective having insufficient adhesion between the power module and rectifier case that contains a heat sink to dissipate heat.
The insufficient adhesion heat generated on the power module circuit board in some cases can cause the circuit board to deform and lift off the case. The excessive heat on the circuit board and an uncontrolled electric current output can result in insufficient charging current being provided to the battery.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the engine stalling or a non-starting condition can increase the risk of crashing.
Suzuki distributors will replace the defective part with an improved part, with the recall expected to begin March 2nd.
The Suzuki motorcycles affected by the recall issued by the National Highway Safety Administration include:
