Orange County Motorcycle Crash Kills LAPD Officer

December 14, 2010-According to reports a Los Angeles Police Department officer was killed in a motorcycle crash.

According to authorities a Los Angeles Police officer was killed in a Monday night motorcycle accident in Orange County. The accident occurred in Santa Ana at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Santiago Canyon Road and Jeffery Road.

According to authorities the Los Angeles Police Department Emergency Operations Divisions Officer Kent Carter age 60 was off duty and riding his personal motorcycle at the time of the collision. Carter was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle and veered into oncoming traffic.

Carter collided with another motorcyclist that was riding a 2007 Honda, who was identified as Miles McCune age 24 of Mission Viejo. McCune and Carter were both pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, according to the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

McCune’s passenger was transported to the hospital and treated for serious injuries.
The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

Carter was a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and joined February 23, 1981. He worked for a decade on patrol in Wilshire, Rampart and 77th Street. In 1998 he was assied to the Emergency Operations Division in LAPD’s Labor Relations.
