Two Dead in String of Motorcycle Crash Accidents

NEW ZEALAND - In a not so merry Christmas, a second motorcycle rider was killed in a motorcycle accident when the rider crashed his bike into a lamp post. The death occurred at Halcombe in Manawatu, December 25, 2007. This is the second such death at this location in this string of motorcycle crash accidents.

Initial reports indicate that the ambulance and first responders were dispatched around 10.27 pm after a motorcycle rider involved a two wheeled single vehicle collision, causing the Moto Guzzi 1100 to crash in the passing lane traveling on Kakariki Road, which was shut down for two hours.

This was was the second death in New Zealand for the Christmas season so far. There is suspicion the first death may have been caused by a heart attack, but no reliable evidence if it occurred before or after the deadly spill on the motorcycle.

New Zealand Police state a third death, but this time due to a motor vehicle rollover, took place at 4.30 a.m., Christmas Day on a bend on SH-2 in Waikato.

Daredevil Motorcyclist Evel Knievel Dead at 69

Los Angeles, California - Los Angeles Motorcycle accident attorneys at Ehline Law report that Evel Knievel, the all American motorcycle daredevil clad in red-white-and-blue-spangled motorcycle jump suits is dead at only 69 years of age. Evel is remembered for jumping over lines of cars, trucks and buses on his Harley Davidson motorbikes and his macho attitude. One of his most remembered jumps was in Idaho's Snake River Canyon in a rocket ship. Going from Las Vegas fame at Cesar’s Palace to an international icon in the 1970's.

His granddaughter, Krysten Knievel confirmed Knievel's was dead at 69 from a long standing battle with diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, which is an incurable condition that scars human lungs. Evel also underwent a liver transplant in 1999. He also almost died from hepatitis C, which is believed he contracted as a result of one of his blood transfusions after one of his many injuries suffered from a death defying motorcycle accident.

One of Knievel’s buddies, Billy Rundel, is said to have stated that Knievel had been having trouble with his breathing when he was at his Clearwater condominium. He died before he could receive medical attention.

"It's been coming for years, but you just don't expect it. Superman just doesn't die, right?" according to a public statement attributed to Mr. Rundel.

Washington's Smithsonian Institution recognized Knievel as being "America's Legendary Daredevil". Evel Knievel was made an international icon for his failed jump in 1974 when he tried to jump Snake River Canyon in a rocket-powered bike which culminated in an incredible crash. He suffered nearly 40 broken bones on his lifetime from mainly motorcycle accidents on souped up motorbikes. He eventually had to retire in 1980 from his serious injuries.

He died right after he settled a lawsuit against black rap star Kanye West who alleged to have stolen footage from a Knievel trademark associated with the Snake River jump, according to an Associated Press report, used in a West music rap video. Motor bike riders and children of all ages will remember Daredevil Motorcyclist Evel Knievel Dead at 69 throughout the ages.
